TRAINING FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS
It is essential that people understand the realities of commercial sexual exploitation, so that they do not inadvertently cause further harm to those who have been impacted.
Rising Angels provides training for service providers, front line workers and laypersons who may come in contact with women who have been commercially sexually exploited. This training is specifically geared towards understanding the trauma that this type of exploitation causes to her mental and physical health. This is survivor led training that delves deeply into the issues which are crucial to her healing.
At our full day workshop you will:
- Understand how traffickers manipulate women’s vulnerabilities
- Learn how to recognize signs that a woman is being exploited
- Learn how to approach a woman you believe is being exploited
- Understand how her experiences and trauma have affected her
- Hear from survivors of commercial sexual exploitation
- Become informed so you can best support a survivor
- Learn how to help her plan for a future
- and much, much more
The facilitators are Katarina MacLeod, a survivor of 15 years of commercial sexual exploitation, and Sheila Howlett, her mentor since 2011. Learn more about them on our Speaker page.
This training incorporates the 107 page resource manual “Mending Broken Wings”, which was written by the co-facilitators and contains invaluable knowledge to assist and guide you long after the training event has ended.
Rising Angels hosts these workshops throughout the year in various communities. Organizations can also request to host a training event. Training is generally offered as a full day event, but requests for half day or 1-2 hour mini-training sessions will be considered on a per case basis.

EDUCATION
Many in our society are unaware of the prevalence of commercial sexual exploitation in our own communities!
We hear regularly from those who thought this only happened in third world countries or in sex tourism destinations.
Awareness and education are crucial for the fight against this scourge.
Rising Angels is available to provide awareness & education sessions to schools, town halls, church groups, youth groups, and more.
These sessions include essential information such as:
- Understand what commercial sexual exploitation looks like in Canada
- Learn how traffickers lure and groom vulnerable girls and women
- Learn some of the typical signs that someone is being trafficked or groomed for trafficking
- Where do traffickers find the girls and women
- What is the role that media and pornography play in this plight
- What can you do about this issue
Education sessions can be tailored for age appropriateness, and generally run from 45 minutes to 60 minutes in length, depending on the requested content.
